Kitty watching - Day 1

First day of watching my friend's place and pets.

The drive over was pretty boring. The snow from earlier this week has been plowed so I can't fishtail around turns for fun. I brought my brother over so he could take care of the litter box and playing with the kitties. (I'm allergic to them)

I found two packages for my friend's wife, probably books, at the door. No mail in the mailbox but it's probably too early for the mail to be here. I'll grab it tomorrow. I kind of expected the kitties to raid the door when I came in. No such luck. Inside I found Shalom meowing at his food bowl and Jack wasn't anywhere to be found. Jack appeared once I filled his bowl.
Their water dispenser empty. I swear they drink half their volume in water a day. The dispenser was full yesterday. My friends told me they drank a lot but the words didn't really sink in until now.

When I filled the dispenser I found a metal pan in the sink full of water with silverware and a dish cloth in it. I just dumped out the water, hung up the cloth, and set the pan aside for tomorrow. I also found the kitchen garbage knocked over which is not a surprise. I've seen both cats knock it over before. I cleaned up the mess and threw the garbage bag into the garage only half full.
I appropriated a ThinkGeek box to put the mail into. I can only hope putting the box on the table will prevent the kitties from messing with it but I've seen Jack jump over 6 feet high. I set my brother on the job of snuggling with Shalom while I collected some of the oranges and the remains of a brick of cheese I brought by yesterday. I don't want the food to go bad over here.
I think tomorrow I'll just come by myself, bring a bag of tea and a flaskful of adult beverage and spend a few hours trying to get some writing done. It's nice and quiet over here. I'd think about staying the night if I wasn't so allergic to the cats.

Oh! I forgot about the fish. I better feed them before I leave or my friend's wife will kill me.

Friends gone, watching their kitties.

I took my friend and his wife to the airport yesterday. They are in Texas for a week to visit her parents. I've been graced with checking on their two cats, Jack and Shalom, while they are gone. They would probably have their two roommates take care of them except that those roommates aren't around. So, I'm also checking the mail, making sure their half of the duplex isn't burning down, cleaning the dishes they forgot to put away when they left, etc.

I really don't mind helping out my friends even if I'm allergic to their fuzzy pets. I'm over at their place as often as I'm at home. I have free access to the fridge when I'm over. I never feel that I do enough for them and they haven't asked me to do much. Good friends take work and they are more than worth it. I'm not just buttering them up because they will end up reading this. So I've decided do a daily blog while I'm watching the kitties. I don't know if it will be interesting or not. My friends can check up on their mail, cats, and me just by reading my blog.
